This first image was the original inspiration for this particular post. I loved the clear narrative all wrapped up in a single image — Kelly prepping for her wedding in her parents’ home while the dress she’d wear to walk down the aisle to Nic waited patiently for her to put it on in the next room. Once I had grouped my favorites from Nick and Kelly’s wedding together for a blogpost I soon realized that quite a lot of them were in black and white too. Then it hit me — why not an entire blogpost in black and white?
I appreciate the simplicity of black and white, how with the color gone you’re given the opportunity to pay more attention to the composition of each frame. I’ve also always been drawn to the mood a black and white edit naturally brings to an image. Lastly, I just really enjoyed that narrowing my options down to only the black and white ones forced me down from my usual 200+ image blogposts hahaha.
So here you are. A wedding day in the bride’s small hometown where the warmth from both sides of their families flowed into each and every facet — one example being the Nic’s dad, two little brothers + his cousin making up 4/5ths of the groomsmen.
A story told in black and white.
I will forever love a goofy sibling photo.
I can’t remember exactly what this little boy was yelling, but I vaguely remember it being some form of greeting to Kelly + Nic once the ceremony had started. His laughing eyes and the dad’s sheepish smile are my favorite parts of this one.
Burgundy + velvet + greenery OH MY! Shelby + Cameron’s wedding at the McKinney Flour Mill was a dream — one that I’m excited to share a little peek of with y’all today.
During Shelby’s father’s toast he called his wife up next to him in honor of their 30th wedding anniversary three days after — their tenderness with each other on the day their daughter got married has stuck with me.

I got an e-mail from Nikki about a month after sending her her bridal portrait gallery and in it she wrote
“So I’m looking at the bridal portraits for the millionth time, and I just want to thank you. I can’t help thinking about showing these to our kids someday when they’re planning their own weddings.”
And it made me smile. I get that feeling myself sometimes myself when I look at photos, like, “These. These are the photos I want my children to hold on to as their favorite photos of their momma.” I love looking back at photos of my mom before I was born, or from when I was really little before I could actually form my own memories of her. It’s like little peaks back into her world, like getting to know her just a little more than before.
Oh, Nikki, you and me both would love for these to be photos you show your future children years from now.
If you’ve ever met with me even just to discuss wedding photography I’ve said these words to you (perhaps multiple times too) — plan a wedding day that you actually enjoy. If you do that I can give you great photos. Danielle + Tim did that. They surrounded themselves with all their favorite people, wrote their vows in their words, and snuck off after the ceremony to celebrate their minute-old marriage with some champagne. They ran and high-fived everyone for their reception entrance and had tacos and margaritas for the appetizers. Then commenced a most epic dance party — complete with live band and a makeshift limbo and jump rope portion — and wrapped the night up with confetti and a food truck.
This was a Danielle-and-Tim wedding through and through, and that makes me happy.
I found it so funny that Tim + Danielle’s candid sibling photos ended up looking almost identical.
These three boys trying to jump all at the same time (to no avail) makes me think of The Office episode where they’re trying to get a jumping Christmas card and Erin keeps jumping before ‘one’ because she “doesn’t want to miss it!” — cracks me uppppppp.
A friend of the bride and groom surprised them by having shaved Danielle and Tim’s initials into his chest hair and, well, I thought it was too funny not to share.
