Before the day of Sarah and Chris’ engagement session we had only ever communicated over e-mail and Skype, so it was such a treat to be able to spend an afternoon with these two amazing Houston-ites making some photos I’m really proud of.
The location hunt started when Sarah and Chris told me their vision for their engagement session was embodied in The Civil Wars new music video “The One That Got Away.” I cannot tell y’all how inspiring it is to brainstorm for a session with a specific vision. I was talking with my uncle James about the shoot and all my location hopes for it and he casually mentions that he has access to the historical building across from his flower shop, Scott’s Flowers, in downtown Stephenville. The next day he casually texts me some photos of the inside of the building at which point I casually FREAK OUT and send all the photos to Sarah and Chris because THIS PLACE WAS PERFECT FOR THEIR VISION. It’s so sweet to have an attentive, caring uncle with awesome connections.
Enjoy some of my favorites from Sarah and Chris’ Stephenville engagement session.
Yeah, girl.
Yeah, boy.
Sarah and Chris, thank you. For being awesome. For coming to me with a vision. And for trusting me to carry it out.
I’m pretty pumped for your Houston wedding coming up in February.
There are some clients I get to work with and come to know throughout the course of an entire year leading up to their wedding and then there are some clients I get to work with for shorter seasons. Unfortunately for me, Â I wasn’t available for Monique and Marcus’ wedding date, but I did get the pleasure of working with these two while we planned and then photographed their Fort Worth engagement session. Marcus is steady, kind and supportive while Monique is vivacious, energetic and an encourager. It was such a joy to watch and document how evidently their individual personalities enhance and complement the other’s so well.
There is just no getting around it. Monique, you are a beauty.
Monique and Marcus, I see such genuine care and joy in your love. One can’t help but see it.
Thank you for allowing me to document a portion of this exciting season y’all are in!
I don’t try to keep it a secret that I love candy. Chocolate covered gummy bears, peach rings, saltwater taffy, YOU NAME THE CANDY — I love it. **With the exception of black licorice. I think we can all agree that this gross substance should not exist.**Â
It turns out, I also like people who like candy.
When Amanda e-mailed me saying that she and Dustin wanted the setting for their engagement session to be in Hey, Sugar in downtown Roanoake, Texas I was all over it. I got to the session early, scoped out the super-cute shop, met the super-nice owner and of course bought some sweets. You know, to get in the correct mindset/blood sugar level for the shoot.
This is me resisting the urge to make a pun about how “sweet” Amanda and Dustin are together.
But for real, Amanda and Dustin, y’all are so sweet together.
I’m all about giving direction and posing instruction during shoots but when a couple oozes playfulness within those interactions as much as Amanda and Dustin do it makes them that much more fun to photograph. One might guess it could be attributed to a sugar high, but my synopsis is that they’re just this fun together all the time.
An outfit change and a short drive later, we finished up with sunset in a field.
Amanda and Dustin, y’all introduced me to a new candy shop and were so fun to work with. You can basically do no wrong in my book now.
I’m so excited to be a part of your wedding day come December!

blissfully engaged: kacie & andrew // denton natural light engagement session
I love when I’m able to connect with a couple over some common ground we share whether that be photography interests, hobbies or perhaps a mutual friend.
In this instance, the mutual friends are Michael Scott and Ron Swanson.
Leading up to this engagement session, I was delighted to find that just about every Facebook status Kacie posts is either a quote from The Office or a reference to Parks and Rec. At the engagement session I discovered that Andrew is right there with her in fandom and it was he who actually introduced Kacie to Parks and Rec.
James and I have literally watched through all the seasons of both of those shows at least three times since we’ve been married so basically this is a photographer-client match made in heaven.
Can we just talk about how much I enjoy photographing couples who laugh together?
I enjoy photographing couples who laugh together. A lot. Bonus points are awarded if they laugh at my jokes.
Yeah,y’allaregorgeous. All one word.
As if beautiful sunshine, an open countryside, and these two engaged smiles were not enough, they brought out the Ron Swanson t-shirts.
At the end of the session when I asked if there was anything else they wanted photographed before we wrapped things up Kacie sheepishly admitted to wanting a ring portrait . . . on her R2-D2 . . . that Andrew had gifted her . . .that she had brought along to the shoot just in case.
Right when I thought I couldn’t adore this couple any more than I already did . . .
Kacie and Andrew, I think y’all are adorable. James and I are so pumped to photograph your wedding in November!
