Here I shall list some things that are bizarre:
- feeling like you’ve been going non-stop since April and waking up one day and there being no. more. editing. for you to do becauuuuuuuuse . . .
- you’re LESS THAN TWO WEEKSÂ out from your due date with your first baby . . .
- so blogging a lifestyle newborn session and knowing that it’s going to be y-o-u in a short matter of time having your baby girl’s newborn photos taken and seeing your husband turn into a dad right before your eyes — well, let’s just say there are a whole lot of feelings being felt in my office this morning.
Lauren and Lee, thank you for inviting me into your home to document those earliest days with sweet baby Scout. I can’t believe how much she’s grown since we’ve taken these photos. It’s been beautiful watching the two of you become parents, the three of you become a family.
My dear blog,
Please accept my sincerest apologies for neglecting you these past couple of months. I promise you that it is nothing personal! In the midst of the crazy wedding season from April until now, I just lost myself in shootingshootingshooting/editingeditingediting and sadly got out of the habit of paying you the proper amount of attention. I’m ready to change. Please take me back?
xoxo,
Jillian
It’s been three years of photographing the Dotson family and I never ever ever want to stop meeting up with them and documenting slices of life in their darling family. There are photographers out there who can work their magic to make your life appear still and pristine in photos, but that’s not my game. I want to photograph life lived together, and all the jumping on beds and hugs that happen along the way. Dotsons, I am thankful for you.

There is something so very significant about one’s home. Not the structure itself really (although those can be nice too) but more so what happens inside. Where love and families and lives are grown. Where conversations and beds and air are shared with those you hold most dear.
This, this is why I love photographing people in their homes.

Happy Thursday, little darlins! Today’s blogpost is a double feature of sorts because I’ll be sharing a few of my favorites from my cousin Nathan and his stunning wife Sarah’s maternity session but you also get the instant gratification of also viewing some of the newborn portraits we made after baby Kate arrived right at the tail end of June — huzzah!! I for real cried while editing these photos out of happiness for this most precious little family unit that I hold so dear. Enjoy!
And introducing lovely lil Kate . . .
I don’t typically do newborn photos, but when I do they are inside client’s own home, because I don’t think there’s anything sweeter. For this simple set-up all we needed was Nathan’s prized succulent, a piece of furniture that had been passed down in Sarah’s family for generations and a little touch of window light.
